That's the scene from a movie that I have choosen for the first tutorial.The movie is called Sin City and the story is based on Frank Miller's comic book which have the same name of the movie. Frank Miller himself curated and directed the film together with Robert Rodriguez.

I really like the atmosphere of the movie which is really dark and noir. The fact that it is entirely in black and white creates a link between the movie and the original comic book, which had no colours indeed(besides just a few details, like the red of the blood).Also the movie was mostly made using the technique of the green screen.

Just a specification:

In the movie after the minute 1:07 there is the beginning of a different story. This video that I found on youtube has been edited to show just Marv's story.

Tim Burton's Vincent

Tim Burton's first stop motion animation. When he left Disney's studios in 1982 he realized this short movie where the main character,Vincent, is a tormented child who dreams to be like Vincent Price(The narrating voice is actually the real Mr. Price voice!). With this Tim Burton won two awards at the Chicago film festival and another one at the Annecy Animation festival in 1983.I just think this is a really simple and beautiful work and I found it quite inspiring...

I got an inspiration for my first animation from this movie....

This is my second stop motion animation, inspired by the novel Elianto, written by Stefano Benni. In the novel the characters have to go through a fantastic journey in different worlds, placed in remote parts of the universe. The world that I have choosen to represent is called "Protoplas" which is a primordial land where an alchemist,called Ermete, creates human beings and different creatures on behalf of God.

In the book this place is described as a land where there is still a primordial soup, mountains, craters and explotions, creatures continuously mutating with millions of legs or small bacterias immersed in sticky coloured liquids.

The first thing I thought before making this animation, was to use clay and brown paper to represent a rocky surface. Clay is also a good material to use to represent things mutating as it is malleable and can change form very easily. So using the same material I can create different figures like in this case, I created a volcano turning into a hand which mutates and become a human figure.

First stop motion animation. This video was made using aproximately 1000 pictures and it's my first experiment with stop motion animation using just the traditional approach( one movement, one picture and so on...)

The animation is the result of different associations of ideas....what does it take to make a good movie?Is the question i was asking myself before making the video....and the idea of the spaghetti western( food associated to a particular kind of movie) made me think about the idea of preparing a "meal" to explain how to make film. Also my idea was influenced by a scene from a movie "The science of sleep" by french director Michael Gondry, where the character explains how to make dreams, cooking random objects like papers and vinyls in a pan.
